Know how you can apply these 5 behavioural biases to your product or marketing. 📲

Biases are essentially the mental shortcuts we rely on to conserve energy as we make about 35,000 decisions daily. 🤯

(PS. also why Jobs chose to wear black outfits most of his life)

1. In-group favoritism 🧑🏻‍🤝‍🧑🏻

People tend to pick up products and services that are more aligned with their sense of identity.

Apple 👩‍💻 used this bias to create an US vs THEM mentality by using words such as “boring” PC users & their uncool computers.

2. Bandwagon Effect 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️ 🏃

Ever caught yourself liking a post on LinkedIn (read, social media) mostly because it already had about 13k likes? So, you know what this means.. jumping on to a trend or a wagon.

People love what other people like. It’s as simple

This phenomenon is also known as ‘mimetic-ism’

Remember, high numbers are important here to be able to create such an effect.

3. Certainty effect

This is when you reduce the barriers the user may feel when trying your offerings for the first time and so, it also goes by the name, ZERO risk bias.

⚈ You can put your potential customers at ease by offering “risk free” trials or a “money back” guarantee”.

4. Confirmation bias

It’s easier for our brains to confirm to what we already believe in

To use this bias to your product’s advantage,

⚈ Talk to your customers to understand their existing set of beliefs

⚈ Then, reinforce what they already believe in.

5. Not invented here 💡

This is when the user doesn’t choose you cause you seem different – foreign!

⚈ One way to overcome this is by partnering with familiar faces and names.

⚈ When you’re a global brand, it also helps to get published or shared by globally popular social media handles or magazines. 🌎

Have you observed any of these biases play out in your own journey? Comment here so the rest of us can benefit too!
